Trauma-Informed Staff Training
Practical, relational training that supports confidence, consistency, and emotional safety
I deliver trauma-informed training for school staff that is grounded in real-world practice, not theory alone. My training is designed to support adults to understand behaviour through a trauma-aware lens, while feeling confident, capable, and supported in their role.
This work recognises the emotional load carried by staff, particularly in settings where behaviour, distress, and unmet need are part of daily life. Training is offered in a way that is reflective, non-judgemental, and realistic - acknowledging both professional expertise and human limits.
What the Training Focuses On
Training sessions are tailored to each setting, but commonly explore:

-
How trauma, attachment, and stress impact behaviour, communication, and learning
-
Understanding behaviour as communication rather than defiance
-
Responding to dysregulation with curiosity, consistency, and emotional safety
-
The impact of shame, humiliation, and mistrust on children and young people
-
Trauma-informed communication for difficult moments
-
Supporting staff regulation and wellbeing alongside student needs
Sessions balance insight with practicality, ensuring staff leave with understanding they can apply immediately.

A Safe Space for Reflection and Learning
Trauma-informed training cannot be effective if staff feel blamed, scrutinised, or overwhelmed. My approach creates space for honest reflection, shared experience, and learning that feels safe rather than exposing.
Training is:
-
Accessible and inclusive of all roles
-
Grounded in everyday school scenarios
-
Respectful of existing practice and professional skill
-
Focused on progress, not perfection
Staff are supported to build confidence rather than feel pressured to “get it right”.
How Training Is Delivered
Training can be delivered as:

-
One-off sessions
-
Short programmes over time
-
INSET or twilight training
-
Part of a wider consulting package
Where training follows a period of consulting or observation, sessions are shaped directly by the realities of the setting - making the learning more relevant and impactful.

Why Staff Training Matters
When adults feel supported, informed, and emotionally regulated, they are better able to respond to children with understanding and consistency.
Trauma-informed staff training supports:

-
Increased confidence when responding to behaviour
-
Greater consistency across teams
-
Improved emotional safety for staff and students
-
Reduced reliance on punitive responses
-
A stronger, more reflective school culture
This work strengthens the adults around children - which is where lasting change begins.
Who This Training Is For
This training is suitable for:
Teachers and teaching assistants
Senior leadership teams
Pastoral and wellbeing staff
Support staff working closely with students
It is particularly helpful for schools experiencing high emotional or behavioural need, or those seeking to embed trauma-informed practice in a meaningful, sustainable way.

Training Rooted in Understanding, Not Initiative Overload
My aim is not to introduce another framework, but to support staff to work more confidently within the reality they are already navigating.
If you are looking for trauma-informed training that is grounded, compassionate, and genuinely supportive of staff wellbeing, I would welcome a conversation.
