My Training & Learning Journey

Classroom

Eclectic, experiential, and purpose-driven

Without a doubt, my learning journey has been eclectic - each subject, model of therapy, and training experience sparking curiosity that led me to the next. I have studied across a wide range of modalities, gathering tools, insights, and approaches that now inform everything I do. This breadth allows me to tailor training and support to the realities of schools and young people, rather than relying on a single, rigid framework.

At school, however, my experience of learning was very different. Like so many other students, learning wasn’t just difficult - it was impossible. My nervous system was constantly on high alert, and I lacked the safety and support that would have allowed me to engage fully.

That experience is central to the work I do now. It fuels my passion for trauma-informed practice and shapes the way I approach staff training, consulting, and therapeutic mentoring. I understand firsthand what it feels like to be “missed” by systems, and I bring that insight to the adults I support.

Lifelong Learning as a Core Value

Learning doesn’t stop at qualifications. I continue to engage with new models, research, and approaches, integrating what works into my work with schools and young people. This passion for continual learning ensures that every training session, workshop, or mentoring session is enriched by the latest insights and informed by a wide range of perspectives.

How This Shapes My Training

Because I have learned from many different modalities and approaches, I bring a wide toolkit to my training and consultancy. This allows me to:

  • Offer practical, adaptable strategies that staff can use immediately

  • Draw from multiple models of therapy and trauma-informed practice to suit your setting

  • Understand learning, behaviour, and emotional needs from a variety of angles

  • Support staff to feel confident, reflective, and capable in their roles

My aim is not to present myself as “the expert” who knows all the answers. Instead, I bring curiosity, experience, and practical tools that are informed by lived experience, formal training, and continual professional learning.

Why This Matters for Your School

When staff engage with training from someone who has walked both sides of learning, they benefit from:

  • Practical strategies that come from lived insight, not just theory

  • A relatable, empathetic approach to challenging behaviour and emotional needs

  • Tools drawn from multiple modalities, allowing for flexible application

  • A facilitator who values curiosity, reflection, and ongoing growth

Training with me is about practical application, reflection, and empowerment - helping adults create environments where young people can finally feel safe, seen, and able to learn.
